MIDSOMER Norton have missed out on promotion in the Bristol/Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League despite winning their last match of the season.
They played at home against third-placed Congresbury and gained a 54-run victory but it was not enough to lift them into second spot.
Golden Hill finished runners-up after they gained a five-wicket home win over Wellington who are relegated after only one season in the division. Taunton Deane are the other team who will go down, but not before a spirited fight to avoid the drop this month.
Midsomer Norton, batting first against Congresbury, scored 226-8 in their 50 overs with Finn Kelsey top scoring with 85. Callun Harvey hit 63 and Paul Robbins 28 while Tim Sugumar took 4-38 and Rishabh Singh 3-36.
In response, Congresbury were bowled out for 172 in 39.3 overs with Jack Thompson scoring 58 not out, Jack Kearns 24 and Justin Yau 33. Harvey finished with bowling figures of 3-32 and Robbins 3-36.
Midsomer Norton, who finished fourth, had looked good for promotion at the beginning of the month but then suffered some unlucky defeats which eventually proved their undoing.
