Old Bristolians Westbury won the toss and elected to bat first. A cautious start against Turner and Hampshire indicated that runs were likely to be at a premium on a wicket which offered variation for the bowlers.
Turner picked up a wicket in his opening spell, but it was the introduction to the attack of Sam Gould (3–13) and Nick Pang (3–14) which proved decisive. Gould accounted for opener, Swetman, and the dangerous Botha in his first two overs and Pang's accuracy won an LBW decision to dismiss Domone. Watson looked relatively untroubled as he batted for nine overs, but he was run out by Clifton for eleven to leave the innings in tatters at 31–6. Singh and Hanna offered some resistance for the seventh wicket, as did Macarthur and Hayden for the ninth, but the returning openers mopped up the tail as the home side was dismissed for 63.
After an early tea, Norton's best opening stand of the season, a half-century partnership between James Harvey and Alex Lear, took the visitors to within sight of victory before both were dismissed for 23. Jon Harvey was bizarrely run out as Hanna deflected a full-blooded shot from Martin Cox onto the stumps before Potter hit the winning runs.
