PAULTON Rovers hammered Keynsham Town 8-0 at home in the Jewson Western League’s Les Phillips Cup, never looking back after an opening goal only three minutes into the tie.
Martin Lenihan delivered a great ball from which Leo Eglin got a header away. The keeper managed to claw the ball out but only straight back to Eglin who hit the ball hard enough that it crossed the line despite the keeper getting behind the ball again.
Five minutes later, Eglin got his second when Milo Murgatroyd used his quick feet to get to the byline and pull the ball back to the edge of the six yard box for the midfielder to fire home.
Murgatroyd was at it again but his shot from a tight angle smashed against the post.On the stroke of half time, Leo Eglin should have had his hattrick after Kye Simpson did brilliantly to get past his man and deliver the perfect cross to the penalty spot area. With the keeper stranded, Eglin hit the ball over the crossbar.
Rovers made three changes at half with Dan McBeam, Corey Rawlings and Jack Dancey all coming on.
Rawlings was on the scoresheet after just three minutes when Murgatroyd picked up a loose ball in the area and pulled the ball back to the forward who struck an unstoppable shot from twelve yards out.
Straight from the kickoff, Rovers got the fourth. Leo Eglin nicked the ball and gave it to Kye Simpson who quickly passed on to Murgatroyd who calmly lifted it past the keeper. In the 58th minute,
Simpson was instrumental again as he collected a pass from Martin Lenihan and crossed to Dan McBeam who collected the ball, turned and fired home. Corey Rawlings crashed a freekick off the crossbar before Rovers got the sixth in the 79th minute. A long ball out of the back by Elliot Creely looked headed for the Keynsham keeper to collect but Corey Rawlings nipped in to tap the ball away from him and into the path of Kitan Jaiyeoba who tapped into the empty net.
Leo Eglin completed his hattrick four minutes later when Chris Peck picked out Dan McBeam who crossed for Eglin to tap in from close range.
McBeam was involved again moments later when he picked out a perfect cross for Kye Simpson to take down and shoot from a tight angle for the eighth. Man of the Match: Leo Eglin.
