THE Ladies section at Orchardleigh Golf Club are very proud to have progressed to the third round of the Roger's Cup.

This is a Somerset County knock out competition where clubs compete on a neutral course. The first round for Orchardleigh was against Minehead which was played at Weston super Mare, so a win against the seasiders was a great victory for them. They then went on to progess to the second round where they played against Worlebury at Wheathill.

This was an exciting and very close match as the final player Sue Sweet had to take her game to the 19th hole which she won, not realising at the time that the whole match depended on her winning that hole. So Orchardleigh now play the next round at Long Sutton taking on Clevedon on Tuesday, July 16.

The Vincent Cup, which took place at Orchardleigh, is a two round medal competition played on consecutive Sundays. It was won this year by Sarah Hynds.

In the first round Sarah came in first with nett 74, second was Sue Sweet with 77 and third Pat Pitt with 79

In the second round Pat Pitt came in first with a nett 70 followed by Sue Marshall on 73 and third was Sarah Hynds on 74. Sarah therefore clinched the trophy with an aggregate score of 148, just pipping Pat Pitt's score of 149.

The Orchardleigh Ladies are doing well in the Bristol and District Alliance league and are currently in second place in their division. They beat The Mendip B team at home 10/4, lost to Thornbury B away 6/8 but took out their revenge on the home match, beating their rivals 11/3. The away match to Isle of Wedmore was lost 6/8.

The Orchardleigh Ladies are in the second division of the Somerset Interclub League and have played Mendip Spring at home drawing 3.5/3.5 but losing away 2.5/4.5. Against Minehead they lost the away match 2/5 but managed a draw at home 3.5/3.5.

Considering Orchardleigh Ladies section has a very small number of active members they are very proud of all their achievements. They are always more than happy to welcome any new members who might like to compete in league matches or partake in club competitions.
