CHEW Valley stormed to a 66-14 away win over bottom side Ivybridge in Regional Two South West.
It was their fourth win in an improving season for Valley and they are now only two points behind tenth-placed Marlbrough who lost 41-31 to leaders Brixham after putting up a spirited fight.
However, it is tight at the top with Brixham only one point ahead of second-placed Barnstaple who were 33-16 away winners over Lydney.
Exmouth are seven points behind Barnstaple after they won 34-21 at home to St Austell.
Launceston, in fourth spot, lost ground on the leaders after they went down to a 32-12 away loss to Matson who are now up to eighth in the table.
