After the two-hour drive to Teignmouth the Norton team started the brighter of the two sides, quickly getting the journey out of their legs. Prop, Edgel, scored the first try of the game, and with the conversion added, Norton had a seven point lead.
The home side started to hit their stride, and their forwards put a lot of pressure on the visiting scrummage, depriving Norton of an attacking platform.
Teignmouth scored from a driving maul, but were unable to convert. At this point in the game there was very little between the sides, both having attacking opportunities but the defences holding firm. One Teignmouth attack came to nothing, but fly half, Abbott, was judged to stop the ball illegally and was issued a yellow card, with the home side slotting the penalty.
As the half ended, Teignmouth extended their lead with their second try and this was converted, giving them a 15–7 half-time lead.
The half started badly for Norton, as Teignmouth came out of the blocks very quickly, extending their lead.
The point difference allowed the home side to relax and to look to attack at any opportunity, which they did for the rest of the game, scoring at regular periods.
As the half proceeded, Norton sorted the scrummage problems out but the lineout started to falter, depriving the side of any attacking opportunities.
Although this was another disappointing defeat, the young players in the team – Goddard, Fear, Bicknell, Rose, Anderson and Knight, are gaining experience of playing at this level.
