Somer Athletics Club’s runners have been busy in recent weeks with the club’s distinctive black and amber shirts being seen across the globe.
Staying local, sixteen Somer athletes ran October’s Town Park 5km run, tackling the hilly course along with 20 other runners on a sunny Saturday morning.
At the other end of things, Rosie McKissock went Stateside to compete in the prestigious Chicago Marathon. She completed a tough 26.2 miles in a rapid 3 hours 3 mins. Lillie Bleasdale recorded a similar time at the famed Berlin Marathon whilst the Somer name was also seen at the Loch Ness and Chester marathons, as well as a range of half marathons and 10km races.
The biggest contingent was at the Cardiff Half Marathon with twelve runners making the trip from the Somer Valley to the Principality. This included three of the 2022 beginners group completing the 13.1 miles on a warm, sultry day.
Awards came to both Youth and Senior elements of the club as they secured awards in the South West Sapphire League. Oliver Aldred won the U17 3000m award, whilst Richard Maddock was 2nd in the 100m.
Somer Athletics Club meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Norton Hill School. With darker nights, they can offer motivational sessions and team support to get you out running with similar ability runners. Feel free to contact them via their website, Facebook or Instagram pages.
