SOMERSET County Cricket Club have signed South African seamer Migael Pretorius as a replacement overseas player for Will Sutherland who was unable to come because of injury, writes Richard Walsh.
The 29-year-old is expected to feature in the Cidermen’s second championship match against Surrey which starts the Oval on Friday (April 12) and will be available for a minimum of six red-ball matches.
Migael has claimed 165 career wickets in 56 First Class matches at an average 25.83 with a best of six for 38.
A more than useful lower order batter, he has amassed more than 1700 First Class runs with a highest score of 109 not out.
He was a member of the South Africa Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka in 2020 and was also named in the IT20 squad for the series against Pakistan the following year.
Director of Cricket Andy Hurry said: “In his time with Durham last season, Migael proved he can perform and take wickets in English conditions.
“He is a quality player and very driven, so he will certainly add value and depth to our attack. There is a lot of cricket ahead of us, so it’s vital that we maximise the options we have available to us.”
