SOMERSET'S predominantly young side made up of former Academy youngsters will take on Glamorgan in the final of the Metro  Bank One Day Cup at Trent Bridge on Sunday.

The is the first time that Somerset have reached the final of the 50 over competition since it was revamped to run alongside The Hundred.

One of the Somerset young guns looking ahead to the final is 21 year old left arm seamer Alfie Ogborne who made his senior debut in the competition in 2022.

He said: “It's a massive privilege to be playing in the Metro Bank One Day Cup Final this year. We are not too bothered about who we are playing and where it is because for this team all that matters to us is being able to represent Somerset on such a big occasion.

“As young players we are all a year older this year and I think we are all just that little bit wiser so we haven’t thought much about who we are playing against.“

“Ahead of the final we are all very calm and this is just another match. We love playing together as a team so i'ts really exciting.”

Chief Executive Jamie Cox won the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy back in 2001 when he was captain and looking ahead to the Metro Bank Final

he said: “We have got the 50 over squad who have done an incredible job to get through to the final and even though it looks like an inexperienced team on paper, I think it looks a terrific team.

“The cricket that I have watched in the 50 over competition all summer has been of a very high standard so I can only judge it by what I have seen this year. We have played great cricket against very worthy opponents. Now we have got one more opportunity to come together and put that on display.

He added: “I’m really excited about Sunday, and probably more so than I was even for the T20 last Saturday. It’s a format of the game that I think I always fancied and I’m really excited for the mainly young blokes who are going out to try and win us a trophy. I'ts a fantastic opportunity for the team.”
