CAPTAINS’ Mark Necker and Ann Padley held a very successful Captains Charity Day at Mendip Golf Club.

Despite challenging weather, a great day was had by all who attended. Through the generosity of the members, vVisitors and sponsors £3,275 was raised on the day which will go to Mark’s Charity, Guide Dogs and Ann’s being The Childrens Hospice S W.

The Captains were fulsome in their praise of all the various parts of the Mendip team and the various volunteers who worked so hard to make the day a success. The real winners on the day were the carities but for the record the winning team were Alan Padfield, Chad Patel, Craig Robertson and Robert Ware with a net 52. In 2nd place came Clayton Merrett, Rhys Swift, Darrin Vowell and Jack Vowell with 55 beating Andrew Pawley, Kerry Pawley, Evie Thatcher and Martin Thatcher on count back.

The Berkeley Hall Foursomes event saw a win for Men’s Captain Mark Necker playing with Malcolm Srawley with a fine net 67. In 2nd place came Tony Logan and Craig Robertson with 69 and Andy Parfitt and Paul Smith were 3rd with 72. The best Gross score was recorded by Danny Middle and Matt Lambert with 81 after count back.

Mendip had an excellent win in the Somerset Rosebowl County event when beating Minehead 3½-1½. Wins came from Phil Leadbeater/Rob Cook, Jon Coates/Baden Wilkinson and Darrin & Jack Vowell with a half coming from Spencer Pocock/Mark Necker.

Thirty-eight ladies played in the qualifying Stableford which saw an outstanding 42 points from Sienna Elliott to win Div 1. In 2nd place came Lynn Cox with 36 and in 3rd Jan Fukuyama with 35.Div 2 went to Ladies Captain Ann Padley with 34 after count back from Diane Stanton with Penny Oliver 3rd with 33.

Div 3 was won by Anne Collins with 37, Debbie Godwin was 2nd with 36 after count back from Caroline Laws.  A further 8 ladies played in the 9 hole event won by Joan Clark with 16 points with Mary Ainsworth 2nd with 15 after count back.

Nearest the Pin was won by Dan Rowe with Paul Jamieson 2nd

The Ladies Alliance A team, with their 5 top players missing for various reasons did well to only go down 9-5 when visiting the Bristol club. Wins for Mendip for Marion Speed and Carol King with Jenny Ahlberg gaining a half.
