NEARLY 130 competed in the Jubilee Cup at Mendip Golf Club.

Darrin Vowles maintained his good recent form to win Division 1 with a net 67 with Jack Cook 2nd with 69 after count back from Kevin Keene. Div 2 went to Simon Wynn with 68, Steve Antell was 2nd with 70 on count back from Alec Roberts. Div 3 was won by Paul Antell with 68 with Drew Foley 2nd with 70 after count back from Chris Webber.

However, the overall cup winner after count back  was long standing member Ken Langridge. The best gross score of the day was from Scott Butland with a new course record of 69.

The Avalon C team met defeat to Wheathill 1-4 with the win coming from Charlie Holmes/Jon Cox but bounced back with a 4-1 win over Mendip’s B Team. Wins came from Tom Black/Charlie Holmes, Michal Rokitowski/Malcolm Srawley, Dave Goldie/Clive Copp and Paul Drew/Rob Richardson. Clive Copp playing the final holes after the match was won holed his tee shot on the 18th. James White/Dan Rowe won their match for the B team.

The Ladies competition this week was a 4BBB Stableford and the  Ping Qualifier. Twenty pairs competed and the winners were Bridget Rylance/Lizzie Wood with 44 points. Patricia Roscow/Sue Barnes were 2nd with 43 and Edwina Willis/Jackie Willcox were 3rd with 42 after count back from Libby Bellew/Penny Oliver.

Ellen Reakes and Connie Cox had a fine win in the quarter finals of the Bristol and District Scratch Foursomes when beating a pairing from Mendip Spring. They now face the winners of the Clevedon v B & B match.

The Juniors had a fine win over Taunton & Pickeridge 2-1 in the quarter finals on the Somerset Junior KO event. Mendip’s team were Junior Captain Connie Cox and Alec and Ben Roberts.

And in our last ‘who are they’ article we feature the Seniors Captain Elect Paul Wood. Paul moved from Berkshire to Wiltshire in 1988 then onto South Somerset where he joined Yeovil GC. On moving to Wells in 2006 he then joined Mendip the following year. His wife Lizzie then joined him earlier this year on the closure of Farrington. As Captain Elect of the Seniors Paul is already very busy looking after the Seniors Competitions Tony Williams
