MENDIP Golf Club’s Anniversary Cup saw 103 entrants. Andy Parfitt maintained his excellent form to win Div 3 with 68 on count back from Tony Logan and Paul Panton.

Div 2 went to Darren Phelps with 65, Nigel Brokenshire was 2nd with 66 and Trevor Messenger was 3rd with 67.

Charlie Pike won Div 1 with 71, Simon Grant was 2nd with 72 and Richard Barker was 3rd with 73 after count back from Jack Cook. However the cup went to Wayne Dryburgh, playing off 20, with an outstanding net 61. Well done Wayne. The winner of the gross prize was Stuart Ponfield with 72.

Nearest the Pin this week was Peter Rumming.

I advised earlier in the season that young Junior Georgie Powell had qualified for the National Finals of the Faldo Futures competition to be played at the Belfry.

Well after a very nervy start, not surprising being just 11 years old and having to face the challenge of the PGA National course, she however recovered well to finish a creditable 7thin the 9-10 year old category (her age when qualifying).

Starting the season off 33, Georgie is now playing off 19.3, showing great progress this season.

Eighteen youngsters played in the Junior Club Championships, a good number when you consider where we were a few years back. The winner of the Geoff Fisher Golf Development Trophy which goes to the Junior who has not yet reached Handicap status but who shows all round progress was Ava Pitchell.

The Stableford Championship went to Harry Bassett with 33 points. The new Junior Net Champion is Maisie Dezis, playing off 17, with a net 69. However the new Junior Champion is Owen Roach playing off a 1 handicap who recorded a fine Gross 74, with Jack Isaacs 2nd with 81.

Now that all the results are in, The Ladies Alliance A team have been confirmed as champions and will be promoted to Division 2

The Seniors visited Clevedon and came away with a 5-1 win and followed that up with a 3½-2½ victory when visiting Enmore.

Lastly, an apology. In last week’s report on the Seniors match v Kingsdown, it was Steve Regler who picked up a point not Stephen Ledger who is currently off golf nursing a hip injury, We hope to see him back soon.
