BUILDING on last year’s success, the organisers of the Wellow Way 10K are even more ambitious this year, adding a 5K run and a children’s colour run into the mix.
Sudden snowfall before race day was a welcome surprise, but Sunday, March 3, dawned bright as more 300 runners, walkers, and excited children assembled at the Wellow Recreation ground.
National Off Track Endurance Manager Tom Craggs and GB Triathlete Marina Johnson lent star power to the warm-ups. Head of sport at St Julian’s Church School, Karen Parker, set off 120 children on their colour run. Obstacles were designed with the help of Wellow Horse Livery. The youngest participant was just a year old.
Next, the 10K walkers set off just before the 10K runners faced the muddy course. Afterwards, participants enjoyed the BBQ by Somer Valley Butchers and the sumptuous PTA cake stand.
The event raised over £3,000 for the Wellow Recreation Ground, St Julian’s Church, Wellow Parlour Shop and St Julian’s School PTA. A huge thanks must go to the event sponsors, Mercedes.
Organiser Lisa Hunt said: “The Wellow Way 10K is now an established event for all the family in the running calendar, and we look forward to seeing you next year.”
