The 86th Clutton Flower Show and Village Day will soon be upon us.
On Saturday, August 10, the showground at Rudge’s Field will open at 12pm for festivities. Admission is £4, children (under 16 years) go free if accompanied by an adult. Organisers say you can expect “a great day out for all the family”.
There will be a large marquee with hundreds of exhibits, including flowers, vegetables and cookery, as well as a selection of food stalls, teas, coffee, cold drinks and fresh homemade cakes, plus a licensed bar. Punters can expect live music playing throughout the afternoon and into the evening from two bands, Rebel Rewind and Martin Radford, as well as the men of Chew Choir.
Expect more than 40 stalls offering many different items, such as plants for your garden, handcrafted jewellery, wooden craftwork, giftware, tombola, hook a duck, childrens items, sweets and candy floss. Then, take a step back in time and look at the classic cars, tractors, motorbikes and a steam engine. A blast from the past sure to rekindle memories of yesteryear.
This year’s main attraction is the Wye Valley Axemen. They will be demonstrating their skills using axes and chainsaws, bringing to life the lumberjack techniques of years gone by. There will also be ferret racing, ‘Clutton’s strongest’ competition, childrens’ entertainer Lucy Lost It, a dog show, dog agility trials, Somerset Morris Dancers, a local cheerleading group and pygmy goats.
Mary Payne, renowned BBC Radio gardening guru, will be on hand for ‘gardening question time’ to give horticultural advice for any problems you may be facing with indoor or outdoor plants, pests and diseases.
There will also be a raffle with some impressive prizes for £1 per ticket. Some of the top prizes include: £100 worth of Whitehall Gardening Vouchers, £100 gift hamper of Somerset Toiletries from The Soap Bar Cafe and a three course meal at The Pig near Bath.
Organisers say: “We would like to thank our sponsors for providing funding for the 86th Clutton Flower Show and Village Day.
“Without their generosity we would not be able to put on such a great event for all to enjoy. Thank you to The Soap Bar Cafe at Somerset Toiletries Company, Joanna Tiley Estate Agents, Thatcher & Hallam Solicitors, BPB Architect, Clutton Parish Council and Pennys.
“We look forward to seeing you there”.
