Everyone can remember that one teacher who really made a difference and for millions of students around the world, that teacher is John Corbett, from Writhlington School.

Inspirational Maths teacher, John has created an online forum, Corbettmaths.com, which offers students and teachers, videos, revision guides and teaching resources. The free site was built during the summer of 2012 and its popularity has spiralled reaching students and teachers all over the world. Now four years on, Corbettmaths boasts almost 10 million views a year, 13,500 twitter followers and thousands of free resources for teachers and young people.

In recognition of his hard work and hours of dedication to young people, John has reached the final round of the Innovation Teaching Award hosted by educational charity SHINE. Recently, he was invited to London to be interviewed along with the other finalists before the judging panel decides who will be awarded £15,000 in grants.

John commented: “I really believe that everyone, regardless of their background, deserves the opportunity to succeed. Not everyone can afford private tuition, but I wanted to give people the opportunity to achieve their goals on their own. My website reaches millions of users and the grant will go a really long way towards producing more resources and supporting even more people. There are ten grants available, that is a one in three chance, so I have my fingers crossed.”

His dedication to young people is amazing, regularly working with students in the holidays and on Saturdays. This grant will enable him to have an impact on even more young people around the world.”
