Forest of Avon is one of 15 Community Forests – collectively, the largest environmental regeneration initiative in England. We work with partners, landowners, community groups and local people to plant and nurture trees to benefit local communities and the environment.
Our Journey and Achievements

Over the past 30 years, the Forest of Avon community has planted and maintained millions of trees. Thanks to the DEFRA ‘Nature for Climate’ backed ‘Trees for Climate’ programme we are now planting at the fastest rate ever. Since 2020, we’ve planted over 215,000 trees in 180 projects covering 246 hectares including 11,665 metres of new hedgerow!
Funding and Support for Your Project
We can fund a variety of tree planting projects, covering up to 100% of project costs and offering maintenance payments for up to 15 years. Our dedicated tree team simplifies the process by handling historical and environmental record checks, reducing your paperwork, and ensuring your trees are planted in time for the next season.
A Case Study: Mixed Habitat Creation
Last year, Forest of Avon created a 9.4-hectare project integrating new woodland, hedgerow, orchard, wood pasture, and natural regeneration. Planting a variety of tree habitats will enhance the landscape, reduce local flooding and boost local biodiversity as well as providing a new venue for a nearby school to offer outside learning activities. The Forest of Avon team were able deliver the project from design, through planning to planting and costs for trees, guards, stakes, labour, and deer fencing were all reimbursed through the Trees for Climate grant funding. Stephen, the landowner, enthusiastically recalls, “And then suddenly out of the blue came Forest of Avon, and they said, ‘we can pull the whole thing together’. It was basically like sprinkling magic dust.”
