Chewton Mendip Village Hall is to host Dr James Wright to discuss his book ‘Historic Building Mythbusting: Uncovering Folklore, History and Archeology’ on November 13.

Dr Wright is an “award winning buildings archaeologist”. He began writing the Mediaeval Mythbusting Blog in 2020 which seeks to investigate and debunk commonly believed and repeated stories about ancient buildings.

This project has subsequently become a book, ‘Historic Building Mythbusting’, published by The History Press and was released in June.

Dr Wright is currently doing a tour of the UK to promote his book, with an illustrated talk and Q&A session. Local archaeologist Pip Osbourne has organised the event in Chewton Mendip Village Hall to bring use to the venue and host “a special night for those in the area”.

Pip said: “He gives online talks for free on his specialist subjects to do with building archaeology because he wants others to enthuse on the subject too. He is an enthralling speaker, and I thought the villagers at Chewton and beyond would love to hear him, so I booked him.”

‘Historic Building Mythbusting’ will take place on the November 13 at 7.30pm. Tickets will be available from Chewton Mendip Village shop or on Eventbrite.
