The Majestic Cinema in Chew Stoke presents a rare opportunity to see the highly acclaimed film about the first British woman to swim the English Channel.

'Vindication Swim' depicts Mercedes Gleitze’s upstream struggle in overcoming both the cold waters of the English Channel and the oppressive society of 1920s England.

However, after a rival comes forward claiming to have accomplished the same feat, Mercedes is forced into battle to retain her record and her legacy.

The Majestic Cinema’s club chair Kim Heath said: “We are very excited about being given the opportunity to screen this film.

“The film club is always on the look out to present something different and it is a delight to find this independent film written and directed by Elliott Hasler.”

Vindication Swim is Hasler’s directorial debut, with an interesting fact being that both he and Gleitze both grew up in Brighton and a century apart learned to swim from practically the same beach.

Lead actress Kirsten Callaghan trained for three months and performs all of her own stunts.

Kim adds: “The fact that the swimming sequences in their entirety were shot in the open water of the English Channel adds to the experience and drama of the story.

“Definitely a film to see and as ever, we extend a very warm welcome to everyone in our community.”

Vindication Swim will be screened at The Majestic Cinema on the corner of Church Lane on Thursday March 27. Doors open at 7pm for 7:30pm screening. Prices for members is £3, and £7 for non members.
