The Mayor’s Charity Burns’ Night is going to be at Midsomer Norton Cricket Club on the 26th January.
Gordon Mackay, the Mayor of Midsomer Norton, said: “The idea came about after meeting other Mayors and Chairs, at various official engagements, telling me about the charity events they organise during their term of office. Being from Scotland, I thought holding a Burns’ Night would be perfect and what better charity to support than SWALLOW.
The response so far has been really great, local butcher Phil Day has kindly sponsored the haggis and many High Street businesses have donated raffle prizes including Norton Sports and Camping, the Dog Café, Rebel Zen Studios, Avon and Wessex, High Street DIY, the Train Station and the Sports Centre. SWALLOW have also put together a prize hamper to be won on the evening.
As well as traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, my good friend Andrew Carter who specialises making Dim Dim is going to create some special Dim Sim Haggis for people to try. I’ve also ordered some Scottish Tablet for desert and of course there will be whiskey behind the bar.
While kilts are optional, I’ll be in full highland dress to recite Robert Burns’ Address to a Haggis.
It’s free to come along and there will be some collection jars and JustGiving QR codes to scan if anyone wants to donate to SWALLOW.
The easiest way for anyone to find out more details is to have a look at my Mayor’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MayorOfMidsomerNorton
