Peasedown St John’s Community Library has launched a recruitment campaign to sign-up more volunteers during 2025.
The library, which has seen a huge growth in service users over the last 12 months, is part of Bath & North East Somerset Council’s network of community services.
Cllr Karen Walker, operations manager at the library, said: “For a small community library with just 700 books we’re definitely punching above our weight.
“More than 200 people used our services last month. Not only is reading enjoyable, but it’s also good for our mental health too. It reduces stress, is therapeutic and keeps our brains active.”
The library is looking for new volunteer librarians who will help with sorting books, collecting books from visitors, and generally offering help to those who use the services. Full training will be given and you only need to commit to as little as two hours per month.
Peasedown Community Trust Chairman, Cllr Gavin Heathcote, said: “Peasedown Library is part of the Libraries West consortium, which means that if you take a book out from us you can return it to any library across the South West of England, and vice versa.”
Peasedown Community Library is located next to Peasedown St John Primary School on Bath Road. The library is open on Mondays from 11am to 3pm, Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.
