A church in Peasedown St John has continued its trend of ‘producing’ vicars!
Over the last decade, St John’s Anglican Church has seen no fewer than nine members of its congregation train to become members of the clergy.
The most recent is Adam Pitt, who has taken up the post as the new Rector of Holy Trinity Church in Paulton (along with St John’s Farrington Gurney, and Holy Trinity High Littleton) after worshipping in Peasedown for many years.
Revd Matthew Street, Vicar for St John’s Peasedown and Rural Dean for the Midsomer Norton Deanery, said: “Congratulations to Adam on his recent appointment as the new Vicar in Paulton, High Littleton and Farrington Gurney.
Having grown up in the area he knows the community well and will do a lot to support and encourage those living in all three villages now and in the years ahead.”
A former manager at a community centre in Bath, Revd Pitt has a ‘hands on’ approach to getting things done! He said:
“Having arrived in Paulton just ahead of lockdown, I quickly discovered that I couldn’t access any of my churches. All the buildings had been locked, so up until recently there had been no weddings, baptisms or normal church services.
The biggest challenge during the spring was ‘how do you get to know a community when there are restrictions around who you can meet?’”
Married with six children, Adam said life at home has been a huge juggling act these past few months, “my wife and I have been running a small nursery, a primary school, and secondary school and a (very) amateur video production studio with most outreach activities being streamed online.”
