Green Open Homes B&NES is a partnership initiative focused on inspiring and educating individuals about sustainable living in Bath & North East Somerset.

Following on from the success of previous events, their community champions have risen to the challenge of supporting in the organising of even more events across the area.

Energy price rises and the ever-increasing urgency to reduce carbon emissions leads many householders to look at measures to make their homes more efficient. Pensford, Belluton and Norton Malreward will join together in showcasing energy efficient homes and biodiverse gardens at an upcoming event arranged by Bath & West Community Energy. This community event where everyone can appreciate the small changes that make a big difference, aims to help people increase their understanding of energy efficiency in their homes.

The Green Open Homes event will be taking place on Saturday, September 14 across local homes in Pensford, Belluton and Norton Malreward. There will also be an Ask the Expert event in the Memorial Hall, Pensford.

Open Homes events provide information that’s hard to get any other way – face to face, from a homeowner who has trodden the path. Whether you’re interested in solar panels, insulation, efficient windows, batteries or new heating solutions, hear from people who have already made these changes, and avoid the pressure of sales pitches or spending weeks researching on the internet.

As well as visiting the homes, visitors can talk to advisers at the Ask the Expert event in the Memorial Hall, and enter a competition to be in with the chance to win a free home energy efficiency plan, worth £420. Further details are available on the day.

There will be a range of properties of all ages, sizes and types – eight venues across these villages. Pensford was identified as being of special architectural and historic interest and was designated as a conservation area in May 1988.

With some buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries and others from the 19th century which were originally miners’ cottages, there is plenty of scope for retrofit and energy saving measures to be considered whilst satisfying listed criteria for doing so.

Green Open Homes B&NES is designed to inspire and educate individuals about energy efficiency and sustainable living. This event is part of a wider programme led by Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE) and its partners, aimed at fostering community engagement and knowledge-sharing.
