The Harptrees History Society is inviting professor Richard Coates to present an integrated history on one of the UK’s largest remounts during the First World War.

Located at Shirehampton, remounts like this were set up to maintain the supply of horses for the war. However, despite being one of the largest remounts, it has almost been erased from history.

Taking place on Wednesday March 26 at 7.30pm, Richard Coates’s discussion will be based on his research across a range of sources. He has written a booklet on the subject, available at the meeting.

The society will meet at the West Harptree Memorial Hall, Compton Martin Road, BS40 6EG. Bookings open for visitors on March 12, and will cost £3.
