Paul Thorner, a Veteran from Paulton, who served in the 1st Battalion the Light Infantry, will be joining twenty six brother Veterans from his platoon on their next challenge to raise funds for Care for Casualties - The Rifles Trust.

On the 3rd June 2024 Paul will heading to France where he will be joining his comrades on a March from Utah Beach to Pegasus Bridge - Mission Ham & Jam.

This will be the fourth charity event that Paul has taken part in. He has marched along Hadrians Wall, The Jurassic Coast and most recently in September 2023, the Shropshire Hills, raising funds for Care for Casualties - The Rifles Trust.

Care for Casualties is a British charity that was set up in 2009 to raise funds to assist British servicemen and women from the Rifles who have been wounded or injured during service in Iraq or Afghanistan, as well as helping their families. Since then, the Trust has helped many other Battalions that almalgamated to form The Rifles. They help with adaptations required to homes and equipment needed to make life easier for injured soldiers as well as rehabilitation and those suffering from PTSD, as not all wounds are visible.

Over the past four years, Paul has raised around £25,000 for his injured Comrades and he is not hanging his boots up any time soon.

Mission Ham & Jam, will start at Utah Beach France, on the 3rd June 2024 and will take them along the route of many past Veterans to Pegasus Bridge in time for the D-Day Landings 80th Anniversary celebrations.

The last time that Paul stood on Utah Beach was when he was 19 as a serving Soldier for the 40th Anniversary of the D Day Landings that was attended by the Queen and Ronald Ragan.

Paul and his wife Sharon have a couple of fundraising events leading up to the March, starting on Tuesday, 14th November 2023 with ‘Tea at the Rovers’ from 1pm to 4pm - please pop in and meet Paul for a chat and a cuppa at Paulton Rovers Football Club.

Their next event will be on Saturday, 2nd March 2024 at Paulton Rovers Football Club - with a Vintage Vinyl Disco night of Ska, Northern Soul, Motown, 2 Tone and Disco by the Double Deckers with all proceeds going to Care for Casualties, tickets will available shortly.
