LABOUR has announced its parliamentary candidate for the new Taunton and Wellington seat.

Brenda Weston, who was born in Wellington, says she’s “proud” to be standing for the area at the general election on July 4.

She will join candidates for five other parties vying for the public’s vote, including Gideon Amos (Liberal Democrats), Charles Hansard (Reform UK), Rebecca Pow (Conservative and Unionist Party), Rochelle Russell (Communist Party of Britain) and Ryan Trower (Green).

In a leaflet distributed to households in the constituency, Brenda said: “I’m proud to be standing as the Labour Candidate in this crucial General Election.

“I want ours to be a country where everyone has access to quality public services. Health care when we need it, early years support for children and families, safe spaces for young people to develop social skills, a secure, affordable home, a decent income, lifelong learning opportunities, and a green healthy environment.

“When we need them, our essential public services should be on hand and properly funded. Those who provide them should be fairly rewarded. The way we vote affects all of these things.

“For 14 years Taunton and wellington communities have suffered under poor national leadership. This general election is the chance to vote for a fresh start with Labour.
