Did you guess the location of last week’s Mystery Photograph? We were in Mells – and thank you to those of you who have submitted your competition photographs – there’s still time to enter if you would like to!
It was a tricky one last week, but we still had a few right answers from Winston Eyles, Paul Hancock, Jonathan Griffin, Sally Bown, Les Box, Hannah and James Selway, Jeff Parsons and Elaine Bowen.
Thanks to Jonathan Griffin who said: “This week’s Mystery Photograph is a hand-tinted shot of Woodlands End, Mells, with St. Andrew’s Church in the background and the post office on the right-hand side of the road at the junction.
“Just past the Post Office is ‘The Rock’. My maternal grandparents, Walter ‘Watty’ and Mary Thompson used to live in Rock Cottage, the thatched roof of which is just visible in the shot.”
If you think you know where this week’s ‘Then’ photograph may have been taken and would like a mention, email: [email protected] or send your answer to us via Facebook: @MNRJournal.
Answer next week!
This week’s photograph is courtesy of Radstock Museum, who have recently launched a new initiative, ‘Memories over Elevenses’. For a small cost to include tea, coffee and snacks, visitors can come along on the first Friday of the month from 10.30 a.m. until 12 noon, bringing old photographs, objects, documents and your stories, sharing your own local history knowledge with the team and making new friends. Everyone is very welcome. For details, contact: 01761 437722.
