The Annual Summer Concert will be held in Midsomer Norton Methodist Church on Friday, 22nd July at 7.30pm. It will be two and a half years since the choir last performed. Formerly the Choir sang at about a dozen concerts each year and undertook a weekend tour.

Eric Baldwin, the Choir’s secretary, said: “The pandemic resulted in the biggest change in the Choir’s routines since the second world war.

“With normal weekly practices curtailed, some were replaced last year with limited practices using Zoom.

“To the relief of members, socially distanced practices resumed last September and the number of members attending has returned to fifty, close to the pre-pandemic number.

“Further concerts are already booked in December in what will be a busy Christmas programme for the Choir.”

Recently Jamie Knights, the Choir’s Musical Director won a national competition allowing the purchase of thirty copies of a nine-song anthology from composer ‘Mr Christmas’ John Rutter. When the two of them met up recently, John kindly autographed Jamie’s copy.

Peter Bradshaw, the Choir’s Chairman, said: “Singing is a great hobby and good for you in many ways.

“We have a good time and new members are always welcome.”

Jamie Knight said: “There is no audition to join the Choir, no need to be able to read music and the first term is free.”

Jamie is encouraging potential members to look at the Choir’s website: www.mendipmen.co.uk, speak to a member or just turn up at St Mary’s Primary School, Timsbury at 7.30pm on a Monday to find out more.
