Midsomer Norton's former Argos store could be turned into a restaurant if developers get their way. The Journal have created a poll to see what Midsomer Norton's residents would like to see in the town:

Owned by Universal Consolidated Group Ltd, the building at 32 High Street, Midsomer Norton, has been rumoured to change into numerous things since closing in 2020. But it has now surfaced that a change of use application has been sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council as part of potential plans to open it as a restaurant.

In a previous article posted by The Journal, residents of the town voiced their opinions in the comments section, with one person saying: "Not another one! Soon Norton will be full of hair dressers or restaurants, no decent shops will be left. A Home Bargains, B&M or a clothes shop would have been better, even better a little Asda or some thing."

It seems as though a lot of residents are of the same mindset; wanting more clothes shops, supermarkets or home stores, rather than restaurants and gyms:

"Not another one, we could do with a B&M or or a Home Bargains or clothes and shoe shop."

Whilst another resident was keen for the plans to go ahead:

"I'd rather see it used for something than sat empty!

"There are already 2 supermarkets in the town centre. A decent restaurant can draw people into the centre and have positive effect on other businesses too."

Another resident suggested knocking down the building completely to make room for affordable housing:

"Knock it down and build much need affordable homes for people to be able to buy or social housing! Don’t need a Aldi, or Home Bargains."
