A one off talk discussing archaeological discoveries will take place at the start of next year, featuring archaeologists Dr Peter Guest and Dr Mike Watts.

‘Three Digs – An Archaeological Afternoon’ will take place at the Old School Room in the Millennium Hall in Chew Magna on Sunday, January 12 at 3pm.

The talk features three archaeological digs carried out on behalf of the British Museum, and not only feature some unique treasures and mosaics. These archaeological digs were organised by the British Museum, with the digging undertaken by archaeological university students.

A few sites have been discovered and partly researched in recent years, although they had to be hidden again.

The talk will be fascinating and at times amusing, as the speakers highlight the story of serendipity and recent advances in modern investigative science as part of their interesting and illustrative discussion.

There will be an explanation of why treasures and mosaics of late Roman antiquity are now hidden, as well as details of some of the amazing, beautiful discoveries made.

There are no tickets for the event, with entrance costing £5 which is to be paid at the door. Proceeds of the event are for the Pound restoration.
