A residential children’s care home could open in Keynsham, if the planning application is approved.
Community and outreach care services provider Premier Care Management is hoping to open the care home in Keynsham, submitting an application to Bath and North East Somerset Council to change the use of a property in the town from a house to a care home.
The care provider already operates flats across the south west to provide “a great start to independent living” and runs a drop in centre.
Now they hope to open a residential care home to provide accommodation for four children aged 5 to 18.
A planning statement submitted with the application said that the care home would “emulate a family home as much as possible.”
Currently a six bedroom house, the care home would have four bedrooms for children and a staff sleep-in room, with the other bedroom converted to a staff room. The property’s garage would be converted into an activities and meetings room.
The house also contains a kitchen, dining room, lounge, bathroom, and downstairs loo.
The statement said: “The site is appropriate and achievable for this use and represents an opportunity to provide housing to address the needs of young people within the community.”
Premier Care Management’s website states that 100% of young people are placed in the area of their choice.
Bath and North East Somerset Council will aim to make a decision on the change of use application by 3rd October.
