A natural swimming pool could soon be built for a “grandiose” farmhouse in Nempnett Thrubwell.

A planning application has been submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council to build a pool with a patio and pergola in the garden of Thrubwell Farmhouse.

A statement submitted with the application said: “The main dwelling of Thrubwell Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building, set within a generous and verdant plot.

“The natural swimming pool is to be located within the property’s curtilage but of a certain distance away from the main dwelling. It is therefore not considered the pool itself would result in a detrimental impact on the listed building, nor its wider location. Furthermore, it is believed that the natural swimming pool would complement the grandiose setting of the farmhouse and not detract from the wider landscape and landscape character.”

The pool would be 15 metres by five metres, with a deep end reaching two metres. A statement submitted with the application said: “Being a natural swimming pool, the proposed development makes use of a pumped filtration mechanism. This is a fully natural, zero chemical, filtration method which works by absorbing all nutrients within the water leaving nothing for bacteria or algae to grow from.”
