POLICE are renewing an appeal for witnesses to fatal car crash which claimed the life of a man in the Chew Valley earlier this month.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the B3130, Chew Road, in Winford, on Saturday, June 8.

The crash happened at around 11.55am, near the cattle market, and the man involved has sadly died of his injuries.

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: “A man in his 70s was taken to hospital where he sadly later died on Friday, June 14.

“Our thoughts are with his family during what is undoubtedly a difficult time. They are being offered support from a specially trained family liaison officer.”

The road was closed for several hours after the crash with motorists being urged to seek alternative routes.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision, or have dashcam footage.

Anybody in the area between 11.30am and 12pm are asked to call 101 and quote reference 5224147745 to the call handler.

Police are working with partner agencies to improve road safety across Somerset and recently held a week long crackdown after a spate of crashes and incidents of dangerous driving in Bristol.

Calls have recently been made to lower speed limits on the A361, near Frome, which has seen four fatal crashes in just under a year.

Superintendent Oliver Cosgrove, for Avon and Somerset Police, said: “We are seeing too many fatal and serious injury collisions.”
