Somervale School is thrilled to announce that, once again, it has received a ‘Good’ judgement by Ofsted following their inspection at the end of June. This follows previous inspections where the school was judged to be ‘Good’ in both November 2016 and January 2013.
The opening line of the report states that ‘pupils come first in this happy, caring and accepting school’. It continues to praise the schools’ leaders and staff for their clear vision for the school and ambitious approach to the curriculum.
High expectations around academic standards as well as excellent behaviour are a strong theme throughout the report with inspectors noting that ‘pupils try their best in lessons and produce work of a high standard’. Inspectors also praised the inclusive nature of the school by noting that ‘discrimination is not accepted’ and the school ‘is a welcoming place where pupils feel comfortable to be themselves’.
Headteacher, Joanna Postlethwaite, said she was absolutely ‘over the moon’ with the report and felt that it ‘captured the ethos and culture of the school’. She added: “It’s a fantastic recognition of the amazing dedication of both our staff and students to creating a vibrant and successful school environment where academic challenge and enrichment are key for all.
“Adding this to the strong exam results over the summer at both A Level and GCSE, as well as being extremely oversubscribed in Year 7, it is certainly a very exciting time to be part of our school community.”
Somervale School is one of the founding members of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership and has benefited greatly from the collaborative nature of the Trust.
The school has also been recognised recently by the Department of Education as being an example of a school demonstrating sustained improvement.
