A new zebra crossing has been installed outside of Bathwick Primary School on the A36 Warminster Road.
Temporary traffic lights had been in place previously as work began on August 26. The crossing replaces what had previously been a pedestrian island crossing point, and the new changes are designed to make the road safer for all to use.
The footways of the crossing points have been widened and resurfaced, along with new bollards being installed, improvements to draining, along with high friction surfacing being added to the each of the crossing’s approaches.
Furthermore, the council’s road safety team had also visited the school in order to give advice.
Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for highways at Bath and North East Somerset, said: “We’re happy this crossing has been completed around the start of the new school year, helping to keep pupils and families safe on their journey to school on what can be a particularly busy road.
“This is the sixth zebra crossing we’ve introduced this year as we look to continually improve pedestrian safety.”
This renovation comes after similar works were recently completed on London Road East in Batheaston. There, a signalised pedestrian crossing was replaced by a zebra crossing.
