Supporters of Dorothy House Hospice will be able to take part in a zipline fundraising challenge in order to raise money for specialist end of life care in the Bath and North East Somerset area.
The Bath City Zipline takes place from Friday, February 28, until Sunday, March 2, on the lower lawn of the Royal Crescent.
This unique weekend of community fundraising is the first event of its kind for the area.
The event aims to offer the people of Bath and its surrounding areas an exhilarating event in the heart of the city, while raising awareness for the important role the local hospice charity plays in supporting patients and families within their community.
From a retail pop-up shop, second-hand clothing and Dorothy House’s own beauty and home fragrances brand Ubiety, to stands highlighting the services Dorothy House delivers, this event hopes to be a huge draw for local business and families alike.
Dorothy House aims to ensure that everyone has access to quality palliative and end of life care, and the support of the local community is very important in maintaining this.
Event visitors will get the opportunity to meet staff and volunteers who care for patients and their families and who support the work of the hospice.
Dorothy House provides specialist care to more than 3,000 people every year, though changes announced to National insurance will have a financial impact, with the charity now having additional costs of £422,000 per year.
The government recently announced a one-off cash injection, though the added financial have not been fully addressed.
Wayne de Leeuw, chief executive of Dorothy House Hospice Care, said: “With an aging population causing ever increasing demand for end of life care our ambition remains to ensure we are there for everyone who needs us.
“The additional National Insurance cost of this scale just adds to the perfect storm facing hospices at a time when we already desperately needed more support.”
The plight of the hospice was recently featured on BBC Question Time.
Registration for the Bath City Zipline coats £35 and participants are required to raise £150 in support of Dorothy House. To register for the fundraising challenge, head to the charity’s website.
