A MAIDEN century from George Thomas and a six-wicket haul for Kasey Aldridge were the stand out performances for Somerset in their eight wicket victory over Lancashire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup at Taunton.

After being put into bat the visitors reached 121 for three before Aldridge reduced Lancashire to 167 for nine before a last wicket partnership saw them to 218 all out.

Aldridge, who hails from the Chew Valley, ended with the impressive figures of six for 33 from his 7.1 overs, his best List A return, while Lewis Goldsworthy claimed two for 35 from nine.

When the Cidermen replied they lost Andy Umeed with the score on 10 which brought Goldsworthy to join Thomas. The two former Academy youngsters added 63 for the second wicket in 12 overs before Goldsworthy was out for 38.

James Rew, another Academy graduate, then joined Thomas who was in sparkling form and the pair remained together at the wicket to see Somerset home to victory with more than nine overs to spare. Thomas carried his bat to record a career best 102 not out which came off 142 balls and included 14 fours and two sixes, while Rew remained not out 60 off 63 balls with eight fours.
