Fosseway Bowls Club had a very enjoyable bowls tour last week. We stayed at the Royal Hotel in Bideford, where the accommodation and food was first class. Names are needed for next year’s tour, which will be to the Tourack Hotel in Torquay.
Our first game was on the Tuesday at Rock Park, near Barnstaple. The weather was very unpredictable; we began bowling in sunshine, then the green was white with hailstones! We managed to play the 21 ends, but back in the clubhouse, the hailstones came again. Apart from the weather, it was a very enjoyable game with very sociable bowlers.
The second game was at Braughton Bowls Club. The weather was much better this day, with beautiful sunshine. After ten ends, we were treated to a Devon cream tea, and then out to finish the match.
The third and final game was at Byeways Bowls Club. The weather was not so good again; this time just cold and windy. But we managed to complete all games and were able to accept their hospitality after each game in the clubhouses, where the friendship of bowls outshone the fact that we lost all three games. We did have a couple of winning rinks.
Back home and the Ladies have had two games – a League game against Bath, and a Friendly against Prattens. Although we lost both, an enjoyable time was had on both games. The men have done better – they won their friendly game against Stothert and Pitt.
Don’t forget the Plant Sale and Coffee Morning on 20th May from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. All proceeds to Macmillan Nurses, so please come along and support a good cause.
Monday evening Club nights are now underway, so please come along. New members will be most welcome, starting at 6.15 p.m. Hopefully, weather permitting, we will be eating al fresco!
