Fosseway Bowls Club have been forced to close after 37 years. The new owners of the Centurion Hotel have not seen fit to renew the lease, which expires on 15th April 2023.
Members have been busy over the past few weeks selling off both bowling and kitchen equipment, with the funds raised going to three charities – Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance; Cancer Research and Parkinson’s Society. There may still be a few items left (including the defibrillator)for anyone interested.
This very sad time was finalised on Saturday 25th February, when fifty past and present members enjoyed a buffet lunch at The Old Down Inn.
This sad occasion commenced with a minute’s silence in memory of two members who passed away in that week, Audrey Norman and Rod Bruce.
The short mat Rod Bruce Trophy for 2022 was presented to Ted Davis (pictured), a worthy winner, with Anne Morgan being the runner up.
Many memories were stirred by the passing around of the photograph albums and many more photos were then taken by Julie Macfarlane.
The President spoke briefly on the history of the club and thanked members for making it such a happy and friendly experience. She wished all those who will be continuing to play at other clubs, many more successful seasons. DN
