The wonderful spring weather somewhat delayed the start of our Men’s League season with the first game against Bloomfield on Coronation day postponed.
By contrast, the Ladies have had a storming start with league wins over Castle Cary, Norwest and Frome Selwood . The Men’s Top Club campaign ended in defeat to West Backwell but a win in the Men’s Two wood against Keynsham means they now play Clarence Park.
Our young bowlers continue to shine with Cameron Bowen invited to the England trials later this year and Cameron and Sam Dart going through to the next round of the County Men’s Pairs along with Father and Son duo Len and Gary Gunstone, Unfortunately in the same competition, Jim Towels and Terry Priddle lost on the last end at Bath and Dave Chamberlain and Den Skehan lost out in a very close game at Prattens.
It’s great to see the Sunday friendlies being revived with a very enjoyable game against Page Park last week, the weather warm and sunny in sharp contrast to the previous day.
The Friday night internal triples competition has also resumed after the enforced break during Covid, with a lovely supper afterwards, great to be getting back to normal.
Purnell Bowls Club will be holding open days on Saturday, 27th May from 12 to 4 pm and Monday, 29th May from 11am to 4pm.
