MIDSOMER Norton Seconds gained the bragging rights in their local derby with Timsbury in  the Bristol and District League Division 1 after a five-wicket home win. 

Timsbury set a challenging total of 194 after batting first but the home side successfully chased it down with just over 2 overs to spare.

Jack Williams batted well for Timsbury with 44 and Jon Strand struck four sixes in a late cameo, finishing with an unbeaten 41. Earlier Greg Passingham had continued his good run with 29. The experienced Nick Potter  led the home bowling effort with 4-30.

In reply Martin Cox got the Midsomer Norton response off to a rousing start with an excellent 66 and Potter then followed up his bowling performance with a crucial unbeaten 44 and with valuable assistance from Josh Rodd (27) and Reuben Hobbs (24 not out) saw the home side to victory.

Timsbury’s second eleven were unable to follow up their first win of the season in the previous week, losing by six wickets at home to St Mary Redcliffe in the Bristol and District League Division Fivc.

Knocks of 41 from Dan Hill and 36 from Sol Thompson saw Timsbury reach 83-3 but with Kai Singh taking 3-14 the home side were dismissed for 131. Timsbury struck three early blows when St Mary Redcliffe batted, reducing them to 38-3 but a crucial partnership between Udeepa Munasinghe (52 not out) and Rehan Randombage (26 not out) saw the Bristol side home.

Timsbury’s third eleven put up another fighting display in the Bristol and District League Division Nine East but are still looking for their first win of the season after losing by 19 runs away to Brislington fourths.

Innings of 70 not out from Jacob Willie and 52 from Simon Cox enabled the home side to reach 226 all out. Timsbury captain Chris Rawlings did his best to lead his side to victory with figures of 2-40 followed up by a fine innings of 61. Tristan Versfeld struck 34 but in the end it was not quite enough.
