WELTON Rovers are off the mark at last in the Premier Division of the Jewson League when they beat St Blazey 7-4 at home to record their first victory of the season.

Welton took the lead after 12 minutes. A corner on the left from Mason Alden was delivered into the mix where Sam McFarland was on hand to head home. Three minutes later Welton got a second when Kaylen Edwards dissected the St Blazey defence and calmly slotted the ball past Liam Hill.

And Rovers netted a third five minutes later when a shot on the turn from Joe Kemmery flew into the far corner of the net.

This was the best half of football played by Welton so far this season. However St Blazey pulled a goal back on 50 minutes when striker Jacob Rowe headed home.

Welton heads didn’t drop and in the 60th minute Yonis Hussein was found in space on the left and his shot flew over the keeper to make it number four for Welton.

Kemmery was then found on the right, raced in and slid the ball past the keeper to score his second and Welton’s fifth.

With fifteen minutes left Welton got number six when Hussein was put through and finished in style.

To be fair to the visitors, they kept attacking the Welton defence and substitute Charlie Manear volleyed home to pull a goal back. Welton made in seven with five minutes remaining with what was the best goal of the lot.

An excellent clearence from the back fell to Chris Pile and his pin point pass was met by Kemmery calmed chipped his effort over the keeper and into the empty net to secure his hat trick. In added time St Blazey got two more goals, a header from Tom Strike and a penalty from Rowe.
