There have been four Pro Shop Stableford events this month. Seventy-three played in the event won by William Burns (42 points). The next event was won by Simon Jefferies with 39 after count back from Clayton Merrett. The third event was won by Victoria Hicks with 40, Sean Thatcher was second with 39, Georgie Powell was third with 37 and Alan Kay was 4th with 36 after a 4-way tie.
This week saw 60 ladies play in a 9-hole qualifying event. Division 1 went to Jan Fukuyama with 19 points, new member Fiona Hassard was second with 18 points. Division 2 was won by Sue Needham with 17, Allison Rumming was second with 15. Division 3 went to Pauline Williams with 21 points, Debbie Godwin was second with 20 and Caroline Simper was third with 18.
A well-attended Seniors dinner saw the annual presentation of all the Seniors Trophies won in 2023 and there was only one prize winner absent, an excellent turnout.
The evening ran very smoothly thanks to the Master of Ceremonies Tony Scott. Seniors Captain Robert Miller gave a fine summing up of his year, which has been successful despite one of the worst years on record for weather. He reported that the Seniors Section now numbers 215.
Mendip reached the semi-final of the Somerset Scratch Cup under the able captaincy of Martin Myers who is now stepping down after leading the team for 6 years. Mendip under the captaincy of Steve Davis also reached the Semi Final of the Seniors Somerset Rose Bowl losing to the eventual winners Burnham and Berrow.
