Knowing they were playing top-of-the-table Knowle, who stand undefeated, having not lost or drawn a game all season, Mendip Ladies’ Seconds knew that this was an important game for them.
The team came out strong, gaining possession and dominating in the first quarter. However, the Ladies conceded a goal twenty minutes in. Shortly after, Mendip won a short corner, which was played into the D. Sally Stanford latched onto this, and struck with force to beat the keeper.
The match was end to end, with a defensive penalty flick saved phenomenally by the fantastic Oenone. So the score was 1-1 half-time and all to play for. Knowle scored shortly into the second half, after which, we were awarded another short corner, which was passed around, finally finding menacing Megan Carey at the left post to slot home.
Both teams searched for a late winner, but the defences stood strong. The final score was 2-2 draw. Player of the Match went to Oenone Bodman-Harris, who saved Mendip multiple times.
