Midsomer Norton 43 Cleve 7
Norton won their first league game in convincing fashion in the sweltering heat at Norton Down.
The conditions meant the game did not get off to the fastest start, but captain Joe Button opened the scoring in his first home game as club captain before the away side took the lead with a converted try response.
However, this lead did not last long, and Ben Taylor kicked Norton back into the lead. Hugh Jeffery, who scored on the opening defeat to Cinderford, has continued his fine form from last season and scored two more before half-time to give the home side a healthy lead at the break.
In the second half Kieron Humphries finished a fine move to secure the bonus point, before Button and Jeffery scored again - the latter to complete his hat-trick. Taylor’s boot added the rest of the points.
Meanwhile the Second XV were awarded a walkover as Gordano were unable to fulfill the fixture.
This Saturday the Second XV host Clevedon at Norton Down whilst the First XV travel to Clifton II. Both games are scheduled for 3pm kick-off.
