MIDSOMER Norton opened up a 12-point lead at the top of Counties Two Somerset after gaining a 36-14 away win over second placed Minehead Barbarians who are always a difficult side to beat on their own ground.

It was Norton's ninth victory in ten matches and they now have a points difference of plus 579 - far superior to any other side in the division.

Despite losing for the third time this season, Minehead hung on to second place after Avon's home game against Clevedon was postponed. Avon are two points behind but have a crucial game in hand.

Chew Valley 2nd XV gained a thrilling home win, beating their Hornets' counterparts 22-21.

Wells are still without a victory at the bottom of the table, losing 31-17 at home to Rebels Rugby.

Oldfield Old Boys gained their fifth win of the season when they beat Imperial 32-10 at home.
