It was a busy St George’s Day for Somer Athletics Club as the club’s members headed to London, or made the shorter trip across the border to Corsham.
A magnificent seven Somer runners joined 58,000 other athletes to pound the 26 miles around the capital’s streets. First back was Tori Ratcliffe, coming home as the 77th lady back overall in a rapid 2:53:23 with the other six Somer runners all performing impressively. The support from spectators and their finishers medals being ample reward for Monday’s aching muscles.
On the same day, fittingly forty Somer clubmates across their Junior, Youth and Senior sections made their way to Corsham’s 40th anniversary event. In the 2km race, eight of Somer’s junior athletes proudly donned the club vest. Maia Craddock was third in her age category, being proudly cheered on by her proud father and Somer Junior Leader, Keith.
Meanwhile, the 10km race saw Somer’s runners take on the challenging course heading into the Wiltshire countryside to Neston. First Somer runner across the finishing line at Corsham Football Club was Oliver Aldred in 38:27, securing first place in the U18 age category whilst a host of others recorded personal bests. Everyone enjoyed their trip to Corsham, enjoying their post run ice creams.
