Sunday saw Somer Athletics Club make the short trip to Wiltshire to participate in the 10km and two mile races held at Longleat House. The races comprise of a two-mile first lap before the 10km runners have a longer, more challenging second lap, all finishing in front of Lord Bath’s stately home.
Out of nearly five hundred participants, it was a bumper turn out by Somer’s athletes. Over forty runners were involved, drawn from their Juniors, Youth and Seniors sections. All took on the challenge of the hilly routes in delivering great performances. Despite a few aching muscles on Monday, it was clear that this established event was great fun and enjoyed by everyone.
Somer’s ladies dominated the medal positions. In the 10km race, Tori Ratcliffe came in as first lady in 39:20, ahead of clubmate Rosie McKissock in 41:31.
Roxy Lear celebrated her first race as a Somer junior. She impressed by securing the female bronze in the two-mile race in a speedy 17:15; an achievement celebrated by Roxy’s family and her fellow Somer runners and coaches.

Seniors meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.15pm at the Centurion Hotel in Westfield.
Their Juniors (8-12 years) and Youth (13-17) meet on term-time Thursdays at Chilcompton Sports.
