Welton’s dismal season in the Jewsons Western League Premier Division continued at West Clewes on Saturday, October 12 when they were beaten 2-0 by a goal in each half from St Austell.
With the three points in the bag it must have made the 300-mile round trip more bearable for the visitors.
In a poor game of few chances it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 15 minutes when a week cross from the left hit the back of the head of a Welton defender and fell to the St Austell captain Neil Slateford who had the easiest of tasks to head home.
Welton did respond and good play from Omari Sims saw him find Tyler Linton in space at the far post but he could only head straight into the arms of the keepe. As the game went into added time at the end of the half Welton had keeper Freddy Harvey-Larmar to thank as he produced a tremendous save.
The second half was ten minutes old when the visitors got their second goal to win the game. A deep cross from the right by full back Jack Shaw was met at the near post by Slateford who flicked his effort into the Welton net.
