FROME-based family support charity, Purple Elephant, is looking for runners to take part in the Bath Half and raise money for its year-round child and family services.

Whether you are a seasoned longer distance runner, a weekend park-run participant or a complete beginner, the Purple Elephant team is offering a limited number of paid-for places, running (or walking if you prefer) to raise money on Sunday, March 16 2025.

Purple Elephant's services are free or very low cost, and are open to anyone, but they are primarily aimed at supporting families who face challenges such as low income, children with special needs, or other challenging life circumstances.

Having supported ten runners who raised nearly £2,500 in 2024, the charity is inviting individuals from the Frome or Somerset area to sign up and participate in the next race.

Purple Elephant’s Rebecca Harrison said: “It was so exciting to be there on the day last year and so special to know that these individuals put aside time in their incredibly busy lives to train for us. Our team was extraordinary; they came from all over Somerset and included parents of young children, a police officer, school teachers, an actor, a Frome business owner, a leprechaun and, of course, we’ve had an elephant run for us too."

“The cheering on the day, along with the generosity of donors, was really very emotional and Purple Elephant put every penny to good use. “Our work is focused on local families facing disadvantage, and our services include early-years support, Befriending, Holiday Activities for families with additional needs, as well as a Toy Library lending service and stay-and-play sessions.

“We will soon be opening a new Youth Club in Frome and of course many people know us for the huge, free all-welcome Frome Children’s Festival. Every part of Purple Elephant relies on kind, incredible support so please sign up and join us for the Bath Half in March.”

To join the team for the half marathon, and be a wearer of a Purple Elephant t-shirt, runners (at any level) can opt for one of 10 available already paid-for places.

For those who have already self-enrolled, you can of still join and run for the charity, benefitting from the same support, and be a welcomed part of the Purple Elephant team via their website
