Frome Town Council has announced its schedule of meetings for early 2025 and invites residents to participate and share their views on key local issues.

Residents are encouraged to participate in local governance by attending monthly full council meetings, as well as regular sessions of the planning committee and oversight committee.

These meetings provide an opportunity to engage with key discussions affecting the community, either in person at Frome Town Hall or online via Zoom.

Agendas for all meetings are published at least one week in advance, allowing members of the public to prepare and contribute to the decision-making process.

Cllr Steve Tanner, leader of the town council, said: “We value the input of residents at our meetings enormously and we’d like to see more people come along to share their thoughts, to inform the decisions we take on your behalf. On the agenda for the first full council meeting of 2025 is the council tax precept for 2025/26, which we know is a particularly important topic for many people.

“Likewise, we know people have strong feelings about housing developments in and around Frome, and we welcome residents to attend our regular planning committee meetings throughout the year. FTC isn’t responsible for taking final planning decisions, but we can and have been effective on residents’ behalf in the past and will continue to advocate for our town, with your help.

“Finally, the oversight committee meets regularly to ensure the council stays ‘on track’, true to its objectives and goals and regularly reviews its policies and procedures.”

Council meetings involve all 17 councillors and are chaired by the mayor. Decisions regarding the strategic plan, the precept, budget, work programme and staff structure are made at these meetings.

These sessions cover important decisions, such as the strategic plan, precept, budget allocations, work programmes, and the council’s staff structure, ensuring the alignment of the town’s operations with its objectives.

FTC council meetings are scheduled for January 15, February 12, and March 12. Planning meetings will take place on January 9, January 30, and February 27.

The oversight committee meets on January 29 and March 19. Some meetings will require booking for in-person attendance; this will be indicated on the listing for the meeting in question, on the FTC website.
